This phone case is my new favourite gadget
All of my recent blogs have been about my quest to replace my Canon DSLR with my smartphone to take video footage.
A few months ago I purchased one of the new Olloclip Active Lens sets as it contained a wide angle lens fitting, I blogged about the results.
To recap I was a little disappointed with the results, as I found that my wide angle lens was more fisheye than anything else. I know Olloclip is marketed more towards the ‘action’ end of the market, but I found the footage pretty un-usable. As it’s been gathering dust, I’ve just actually posted it on eBay… sorry guys, it wasn’t for me!
The reason why I’m so bugged about finding a wide angle lens for my iPhone 7 Plus is because I think the camera is great, it’s just missing the wide angle view that I want with my shots.
You see, the wider shot is closer to production standard, as it adds more of the surroundings to the shot and puts everything into perspective. I got this with my Canon 70d (with wide angle lens, of course), but I don’t get this with my iPhone.
In any case, I did some more Googling and I found it almost impossible to find a lens attachments for the iPhone 7 Plus – they’re just not as widely (pardon the pun) available as I had thought.
However, just as I was going to start looking at Canons again I came across an iPhone 7 Plus case on Amazon, which included a wide angle lens.
It was only £18.99, so a little sceptical I purchased.
The results aren’t bad at all!
Without the wide angle lens:
With the wide angle lens:
Admittedly, I won’t be able to fully remove the fish-eye ness, but for the money, it’s not bad at all.
I’m still to shoot an actual video with it… but the first impressions are impressive.
I’ve created a short video above to show you what you get for your money.
