Three digital trends you can’t ignore
Throughout the summer I’ve been touring with clients discussing the three big trends in digital. Some of them you’ll recognise, but they’re here for a reason… they can’t be ignored!
Hot trend #1 – Mobile
Mobile is big (you’ve heard this one before), but it’s now even BIGGER.
It’s probably the first thing you use when you get up in the morning, and it’s the first thing you need to consider before starting a campaign.
25 million people in the UK use Facebook on their mobile, daily. So as well as ensuring your website is “responsive”, you need to make sure all of your content (video, images, apps, comps) all work on mobile too. Use the FREE tool from Google to check how mobile-friendly you really are: https://www.google.co.uk/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/
Hot trend #2 – Digital Advertising
Over the past 18 months, we’ve seen our client’s organic reach fall by over 50%, and it’s a trend set to continue for everyone.
There’s now so much content out there, social media channels such as Facebook are facing a tough decision. Do they show you content from brands or do they show you content from friends? This is the number one killer of organic reach!
There are two types of Facebook content –
- Promotional posts that are all about the brand and their product (these will need digital advertising)
- Fun and helpful content (less likely to require digital advertising)
… also these sites need to make some £££ somehow, they now have shareholders and wages to pay after all.
Hot trend #3 – Video
Here’s another one you might have heard of… but it’s here to stay!
If an image can tell a thousand words, think of what a video can do. They have much higher retention rates (approx. 75% +) with people than posts with images (and without).
You don’t need a professional video to be social; rough and ready videos work the best! Shoot them on your mobile and edit them only if you have to.
It’s a known fact that social media sites such as Facebook & Twitter LOVE video! They automatically see video content as being higher quality, so you’re more likely to get a good organic reach. Upload video natively to social media sites and you can benefit from the auto-play feature, which will instantly give you views!
